Colourpop: Was it Worth the Wait?

This post has been a long time coming. I have been wanting to try Colourpop for the longest time but I have always been put off by the thought of customs fees. I finally got the chance to pick up a few bits when Colourpop had free international shipping on all orders, and I’m pretty surprised that I only picked up six bits. Believe me I was tempted to get so much more!

Colourpop Liquid Lipsticks and Supershock Shadows

I went for the old classics: Ultra Matte Liquid Lips and Supershock Eyeshadows. I was tempted by the new pressed shadows, but I’d heard such good things about the supershock formula I couldn’t not try them. At the time the offer was three Liquid Lips for $12 and three shadows for $9.99, together that equates to around £17. Luckily, I planned it so neither of my orders would reach the £15 threshold which would incur the wonders that are customs charges. I think that doing it the way I did, makes Colourpop a very inexpensive brand, but larger orders that do receive customs could hike up the price. I know it’s not particularly fun waiting to buy makeup as you want it ASAP but if it saves a few pennies I’ll be willing to do it again.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lip Swatches Colourpop Review

I chose three of the Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks, and I thought they were all quite different shades. However, as you can see the top and bottom shade are rather similar.  The formula is really runny, and sadly my favourite shade leaked almost everywhere on second use, which as you can imagine annoyed me a lot. While the formula is runny it also manages to be quite drying on the lips which is okay when my lips are actually in good condition, but as this is rare I won’t reach for them too often. This is a shame as I like two out of three of the shades. The top is Bianca which is sadly too dark for my skintone and washes me out too much for my liking, so it will be going to a friend in my next clear out. The middle shade is Are’N’Be which is the most gorgeous cool toned deep purple I own, I don’t own many berry shades as I’m not that brave. However, this Autumn/Winter I plan to take a step out of my comfort zone so stay tuned for that! The bottom shade is Midi and it is the perfect nude for me, it’s almost a liquid version of my favourite MAC lipstick Hue.

Colourpop Supershock Eyeshadow Swatches Colourpop Review

Now the SuperShock Shadows have a very high reputation. Their consistency is worth all the hype though, it is like butter. The shadows are not meant to be creams, they’re powers but the apply like a cream in a way. I don’t find these work well with a brush like normal shadows, if you want a wash of colour a brush is okay but if you want high impact like the swatches above then pat it on with your finger. The three shades top to bottom are Going Rogue, Flipper and Keeper. Going Rouge is just perfect on the inner corner of my eye, it’s a champagne type shade which is honestly stunning. Flipper is the most vibrant orange, that’s partially why I chose it, I don’t own anything like it. It goes on beautifully and writing this has made me realise I need to use it more. Finally is Keeper, a beautiful deep berry shade. (I’m determined to find a lip colour a similar colour, let me know if you know of any.) It is perfect to go in the crease, as well as all over the lid if I’m looking for a bold look.

Overall, the wait was quite long and I wouldn’t go about buying the Ultra Matte Liquid Lips again as they are quite drying. However, I would definitely order more SuperShock Shadow shades the formula is just too beautiful and buttery to resist. Let me know what shades you’re loving so I can add them to my wishlist!

I'm so excited to read that you loved the SuperShock Shadows! I tried the Ultra matte lipsticks and ended up liking them with a primer underneath for some more comfort. But I never pulled the trigger on their eyeshadows so I'll have to make sure to grab some next time! xoxo Kelsey |
