My New (and Improved) Skincare Routine

It’s no secret that I have been stressed over the last few weeks and my skin has happily shown it’s stress via the medium of as many breakouts as humanly possible. During this time I have decided to shake up my skincare a bit, hoping to counteract the craters on my face. Since I’ve been using this combination of products I’ve definitely been noticing a change for the better so I thought I would talk you through it.

I’ll be honest, I doubt many people my age have quite such an elaborate skincare regime, however beauty blogging means that I’ve read many posts about it’s importance. As a lover of makeup I find that if your skin isn’t happy, your makeup won’t go on nearly as nicely and that’s always a shame, (and a waste of makeup.) My skin type would probably be classified as combination, my t-zone can get slightly oily, while most other areas are dry and flaky – it’s a wonderful set of skin related problems to have. As you can imagine I have tried quite a few product combinations before coming to the ones I have now, while I can’t promise they will work for you, they might be worth a try.

 Above you can see the main four products I use. I haven’t included a cleanser or scrub as I change them up quite often. If I have a shower I’ll opt for the Soap&Glory Peaches&Clean cleanser, which melts off you makeup so easily, and is one of the best smelling products I own. Then I will either use the Botanics All Bright Scrub or the Newtons Labs Blackhead Fighting Scrub, I tend to switch between the two as the Botanics one gives a harsher scrub which I sometimes need while the Newtons Labs scrub is good for days when I have minimal dry skin, which happens on (rare) occasions. If I’m not having a shower then I prefer to use the Garnier Micellar Water, it’s just so quick and easy, and is excellent at removing waterproof makeup.

Now onto the four, currently I use the LUSH Eau Roma Water, I was recommended this by one of the people at Lush because I have, mainly, dry skin. Regrettably I only went for the small bottle as I thought maybe I would want to test out another, but now I think this is the toner for me and need to repurchase soon. Before I moisturise (at night that is,) I use the Superdrug own Anti-Blemish Overnight Serum. While the packaging isn’t my favourite, the serum is definitely helping to clear my skin overnight, since I started using it a month or so ago it has made a noticeable difference. I only use a pea size amount so it should last quite a while, and it’s not very expensive either. Now I know this isn’t necessarily meant to be a night cream but I use the Body Shop’s Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet morning and night. As I said, most of my skin is dry, and I bought this as I thought it might be a good dupe for Clinique’s Moisture Surge. It’s not exactly a dupe, but it is very hydrating and that’s what my skin needs. My final step is is the Clinique Pep-Start eye cream. I used to neglect my eyes, and it was only recently that I realised how important keeping your eye area hydrated is. I don’t know if it’s currently making a difference but maybe it will help me in the long run? I guess we shall see.

 I use a very similar routine for morning and night I just skip the overnight serum, and in the morning I make sure to use either a pore filling or hydrating primer depending on how my skin is faring that day.

Facemasks for Teenage Skin

 I have a stash of single use facemasks, and honestly it probably needs a clear out soon but as I have none which I will religiously buy. Instead I rely on these two to keep my skin in tip top condition. First up is the GlamGlow Supermud which is quite expensive, (I’d been saving for it until I won a tub last month, I’m just waiting for it to arrive…) I really like this as you can actually see where the impurities are, when it dries the darker dots are oils it has extracted. I use the GlamGlow one mainly on my t-zone as it’s oily and it really does work. However, if my skin is particularly sensitive then this does make it go a little red and tingly, so I tend to use it only a couple of times a month. For really dry skin days I basically use the Origins Drink Up Intensive as another moisturiser. I apply a generous amount to the skin, leave it to sink in for 10-15 minutes before massaging the excess into the skin to treat it overnight. Honestly, this smells absolutely heavenly, and I’ll be purchasing the full size when I run out!

 Hopefully my new routine might help you find one that works for you. Obviously all the products I use currently aren’t set in stone and as a blogger I will inevitably try new ones to see if I can create a holy grail routine. I’ll be honest it would be difficult to knock the Origins mask of its pedestal but I’m willing to try.
