This post is going to be a slight deviation, from the usual beauty filled mayhem that usually graces these pages, and I say mayhem as since the new year, not all my posts have been the quality I would like them to be. I got stuck in a rut and churned out a few posts that I thought were satisfactory rather than the high quality I really want, simply because I didn’t want to mess up my posting schedule. I’ve since realised that as blogging is my hobby and not my job and if I miss a post: who cares? I do this for fun, and (as the adverts say) ‘when the fun stops, stop.’ So this post, (if you haven’t already twigged by the title,) is a Welcome to WordPress for MissCosmeticBlogger, and an insight as to what is to come this year.
I only took a small break, in fact I only missed one post and that was Valentine’s Day. To be honest I completely forgot that Valentine’s was even a massive holiday – I’m not sure how either. I saw lots of bloggers with amazing Valentine’s content, sponsorships etc, and to those I say YOU GO GIRL, because I love to see my fellow bloggers doing such amazing things. My favourite posts were by:
Anyway, back to my blogging rut. I got stuck deep down that rabbit hole of self-criticism and doubt, and I’ve been trying to get out ever since. How did I get out of that rut you ask? Well I invested in myself. I grew out of Blogger years ago when I think about it; I have been blogging since the end of 2012, although a few of those terrible posts (ehem nearly 250 posts) may have been culled during the rut as I wanted a positive reboot. In total that’s around five years, I started blogging when I was 12, and let me tell you now: I was no expert in makeup then, I wasn’t even a novice. I’d like to think that five, nearly six years on my knowledge has definitely improved but is by no means perfect. As I had outgrown Blogger I decided to finally take the plunge and move over to WordPress.
The reason I classed it as an investment is because it wasn’t cheap. Luckily, I decided to move when the wonderful Pipdig were having a sale so the move over only cost me £95 plus SiteGround hosting charges. This investment is for the growth of my blog, I might not be able to take my blog full time at the moment, but I thought it would be nice to have the option. I did my research when it came to WordPress, and the features on offer, compared to Blogger, made the move justifiable. Also, the templates that Pipdig offer – the one you’re reading this post off of now – make my posts look a million times more professional, and in the end, that’s what I’ve been looking for.
Before I continue harping on about the benefits of WordPress, I also want to add that I ended up with two options to get me out of the rut: spend the £130 on makeup which would give me something to blog about, or invest in my hobby. While the makeup would have been nice, it’s a material thing, that has an expiry date, while blogging hopefully does not. Now back to the benefits: the template I have chosen allows me to showcase the photography that I’m trying ever so hard to improve, and posts that I, from now on, am going to only write if my heart and soul are 100% in them.
I also really want to expand my posting repertoire. My primary focus, has been and will always be, beauty. Ever since I was little I loved everything makeup, hair and skincare. (Personally, I blame my parents for this: my dad always worried about my sensitive skin so face paint and cheap makeup weren’t allowed until Year 7ish. Of course, I stole my mum’s makeup long before that. And while I said I ‘blame’ them for my love of beauty, I also have to thank them. As without them, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to start blogging, and I wouldn’t have the opportunities I am having now. Side note: thank you for making me the person I am today!)
Part of me really wants to do a few more travel and lifestyle posts. I’ve been getting into fitness and exercise lately and I’d like to share my journey on my blog. Similarly, while I don’t travel much, I would like to tell you about places I travel to. I go to Dubai in Easter, so expect some travel content coming your way soon after – the ideas have been flowing so far.
Well done if you made it to the end of that rather long winded, rambly post. To be honest, I probably haven’t edited it too much, as I quite enjoy a long stream of consciousness gracing the blog every now and then! I hope you like the new layout, I’m really enjoying WordPress so far and my investment has pushed me right back into blogging. I am trying to stick to my Wednesday and Saturday schedule, but if I miss a post or two, due to lack of inspiration or post quality, I am 100% okay with that, and I hope you are to. Here’s to a new look for the blog in the rest of 2018, and welcome to WordPress!
