Red lipstick is great isn’t it? It covers so many things. Want to look confident? Red lipstick. Want to look like a film star? Red lipstick. Want to hide the fact you’re looking tired? Red lipstick. There’s no bad time for red lipstick really, it always looks classy and I need to wear it more. That’s why I’ve put together my top 4 red lipsticks, so I remember to use them, and so you know which are good ones to pick up.
The Fenty Lip Paint in Uncensored was love at first swatch for me. I bought it as my lipstick per destination, every holiday I go on I try to pickup a lipstick to remind me of it, this one was from Dubai. It was the only thing that really caught my eye in Sephora (which shocked me too.) I love the packaging, it’s so different to anything else I have in my collection and the applicator is particularly good as it’s different to normal doe foot applicators. The shade of red would be my perfect wintery red, it’s a deep blue toned red, veering almost into red berry territory. My only problem with it is I need to give my lips some TLC before use as it likes to pick up on a dry patch or two.
Ruby Woo is a classic, and properly gained cult status when everyone found out Rihanna used it. It a retro matte finish, which is on the dry side but due to its beautiful shade I don’t mind putting in the effort prepping my lips. It’s a bright blue red and it lasts quite a long time on the lips too, which is always a bonus when you’re having a busy day. I love the classic MAC packaging too, even better is that they now sell a mini Ruby Woo so you can try the mini before you buy the big size. (Or if you live near a Cosmetics Company Shop you might find it for a bargain like I did!)
I do have two Charlotte Tilbury reds in this post, as they are such good quality, they are also both miniatures as they are from the Hot Lips and Lipstick Charms. So Marylin is part of the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G range, it’s a blue toned red that looks beautiful with a cat eye flick and minimal makeup. The bow on the top is rather irritating at times as the lipstick itself is so small, however it does look rather pretty, as all Charlotte Tilbury packaging does. Carina’s Love is from the Hot Lips range and it is a pinky red shade. I really enjoy this particular red as it isn’t a matte formula so it doesn’t show up my dry patches. It’s a particular favourite around summer as it’s not too bright either, as this one is a mini it’s also perfect for taking with you on the go, you can pop it in your pocket or in a bag easily.
The shades from top to bottom are the Fenty Beauty lip paint in Uncensored, MAC Ruby Woo, Charlotte Tilbury So Marylin and Carina’s Love. Just a little disclaimer, I didn’t mean to pick all highend options, they just seem to have the edge over my drugstore. To be honest I got rid of a few drugstore red lipsticks in my last clear out as they just weren’t up to par. I was thinking of doing a few more of these in different shades as I do quite enjoy picking out my favourites and it makes me realise which lipsticks I need to wear more.
