Dry skin used to ruin most of my makeup attempts in winter; my skin was all flaky, the texture was off and nothing sat right. Fast forward to 2017/18 and I’m a lot more aware of what my skin needs in different seasons. Extra hydration in winter, along with a rather extensive skincare routine and we’re pretty much good to go. One such product featuring in my lengthy skincare routine is the best winter moisturiser I have ever tried: Clinique Moisture Surge.
I first came across Clinique Moisture Surge as my mum always liked a Clinique Bonus Time set and more often and not the cult moisturiser would be included. My mum is pretty loyal to Nivea skincare, (sometimes Clinque Turnaround, but it’s rather expensive,) so I would end up with the skincare minis – and the makeup if I tried hard enough! As I found myself enjoying the minis so much I’d end up only using them when my skin was super dry. I eventually bit the bullet and used the mini everyday and the change in my skin was incredible, so incredible that at every chance possible I would get my hands on more samples as a full size jar is rather pricey.
I was actually surprised how often Moisture Surge appears in the ‘pick 5 samples’ on the Clinique website, I got a mini when I purchased the 2in1 PepStart Exfoliating cleanser and the Take The Day Off Cleansing balm – these kept me going until the start of August. Obviously, Moisture Surge was top of my birthday list and I was so lucky to receive it, as it’s not cheap at £36 a tub! Around the same time LookFantastic collaborated with Clinique on a beauty box which retailed for £30 AND has Moisture Surge in, so of course I got it. This means I now have two to last me the whole way through winter and keep my skin in tip top condition.
I’m aware calling something the the ‘best winter moisturiser’ is very high praise, especially when there are so many options on the market. However, I firmly believe this is the best moisturiser, and more importantly is worth every penny. Clinique’s philosophy is one that advocates extensive testing and as few irritants and allergens as possible. This does mean you don’t get a delightfully scented product, but I’m happy to forgo a scent for a product that really works.
The new formulation of Moisture Surge claims to provide 72 hours hydration, I’m not sure I can confirm it does this for my skin but we are dealing with an extra dry contender, what it does instead is provide intense hydration whenever I need it. This is my day and night moisturiser; it’s gel formula is heavy enough to counteract my dry patches but soaks in quick enough for me to get on with my day. It also creates the perfect base for any makeup to go on top of, and if I decide not to wear makeup then my skin is glowing. If I’m going for a very natural look I will even mix it into my foundation to created a tinted moisturiser in my perfect shade!
To be honest, not only is Clinique Moisture Surge the best winter moisturiser, but it is also an all rounder – Clinique have even suggested using it as a highlight if targeted on certain areas. If this sounds like your kind of product, I’d go ask nicely at your local counter for a sample, they’re usually more than happy to, as long as you look interested!
You can buy the ‘best winter moisturiser’: Clinique Moisture Surge on the Clinique website from £24.
