We already know I love a beauty box, LiB kindly sent me their Grazia box which I reviewed two posts back (can you tell I have a backlog to write!?) In that box there were beauty goodies carefully curated by the Grazia Health&Beauty Director, and while LiB do have occasional curated boxes their main boxes are chosen completely by you. I was asked if I would like to create my own box during May, which was the LiB Global Beauty Lookbook May 19 Edit. Of course I wanted to, and after receiving and trying the products, I think it’s definitely time to take you through them.
The Latest in Beauty build your own boxes come in three variations: Beauty Novice, 3 products, Beauty Enthusiast, 6 products and Beauty Guru, 9 products. Each box has a different price point ranging from £16-25 for a one off box, however if you subscribe it becomes less expensive and then you pick every month. I’ve tried a lot of beauty boxes over the years starting with the classic Glossybox and Birchbox, these were good but offered no personalised choices (the profiles you fill in rarely affect the products sent) and eventually the contents became samey – hence why I have a million mascara samples still. Then I moved on to boxes where you got to choose exactly what you wanted such as LoveMeBeauty and YouBeauty and I would still be subscribed if they hadn’t just started selling their own makeup or shutting down completely. Latest in Beauty are pretty much the only option for me now when it comes to beauty boxes as choosing what you get means you shouldn’t be disappointed with another mascara mini or perfume vial.
Latest in Beauty let me try the Beauty Enthusiast tier which meant I got to choose six products from the selection of about 150, which are a mixture of deluxe sample size and even some full size here and there. The first product I knew I wanted in my box was the May haul of fame item, the Murad Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. This is full size and worth an incredible £38, so you’ve already made the cost of your box back by choosing this. It has a mix of salicylic, glycolic and lactic acid to give your skin the exfoliation of its life, it’s also gentle enough for you to use AM and PM; it’s definitely a product a will take with me on trips as then I don’t need my separate glycolic and salicylic acids. I also added a full size Rimmel Rita Ora nail polish in the shade Wild-Er-Ness, a beautiful pastel lilac, as I’m trying to use nail polishes more this summer. I decided I should try the St Tropez in shower tan but the medium version as the light one is the only tan I use currently. You apply after you’ve showered, wait three minutes and then shower it off and it develops gradually. For pale girls this is a godsend as it’s easy, streak free and doesn’t turn you orange.
The final three products I chose included two full sizes, taking my total to four out of the six being full size – the LiB Global Beauty Lookbook selection was certainly impressive. I thought I would try the John Freida Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold Hairspray as I always love a mini hairspray to carry with me, and this says it won’t dull my hair. While my hair is a dull blonde at the moment, I am planning to get it dyed a white blonde soon so this could be really useful. The Soaper Duper Zesty Lemon scrub also ended up in my box, firstly because I needed a new scrub and secondly because it was full size. I used it before fake tanning the other day and not only does it smell incredible, but the scrub is just the right amount of particles to remove dead skin without being too harsh. Finally I went for a pack of three razors, not the most exciting choice ever but razors are expensive! Any time I see razors in a beauty box I will get them, these ones are the Wilkinson Sword Quattro and they’ll be going straight into my bathroom.
If you want a treat or even just to try out a few new products, I think Latest in Beauty is a good bet. They have different tiers and prices as I mentioned earlier and often really good value curated boxes too. While the LiB Global Beauty Lookbook May edit has been and gone, this month there are some really good picks such as a full size Lipstick Queen lipstick which is super exciting. I’d definitely recommend picking as many full sizes as you can, just to make sure you get extra value for money!
You can build yourself a beauty box on the Latest in Beauty website starting at £16.
