Taking this photo on the hottest day of the year probably wasn’t my smartest move; especially when the prep for this shot involved attaching huge birthday balloons to the wall, full hair and makeup, plus a black dress. I think it was worth it in the end though. (Here’s hoping this goes viral on Pinterest in the same way last year’s did – I could do with the traffic! What a good birthday present that would be.)
If you’re reading this you might be interested to know that I celebrated with a family bbq, as per the yearly tradition. This year though, without a birthday cake and instead a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts which are some of my favourite sweet treats. (But always with some birthday balloons!)
The past year has certainly thrown a lot at me: from family disaster, to a breakup, to moving into a house for third year – it certainly hasn’t been boring, but it’s definitely been a learning curve. I passed second year on a good footing which will hopefully get me the grade I want overall, I just need to get myself organised for third year. Plenty of posts on that are planned.
Alongside all of this I also very nearly quit blogging, which is not something I ever thought would happen. The revelation that it wasn’t as fun as it used to be hit hard. During a stressful period and with my emotions running high, I had to consider packing it all in. Then end of year came, I continued my blogging break, and I realised that I didn’t want to quit after all. I somehow shook some sense into myself, acknowledging that uni stress made it feel like a chore and that over summer I would have the time to pour my heart and soul back into my writing… and here we are.
Now I’m out of that funk, and have hundreds of post ideas floating around my head at any one time, hopefully I will be back posting twice a week, and everyday over on my Instagram. Sometimes I find throwing myself back in at the deep end can be how I work best, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. All I know is that third year is going to be a pretty big test and it will keep all my organisational skills to keep all my plates spinning at once. Wish me luck!
