If you think you’ve seen a lot from Dermalogica on the blog, you’re probably right. I’m lucky enough to be part of their Skinfluencer programme which means I get sent products to try as well as new releases. I was one of the first to try their newest Prisma Protect SPF a few months ago, which was surreal.
Around Christmas time all the the Skinfluencer’s were sent the Dermalogica advent calendar which included a teeny sample of their Biolumin-C Serum. I fell in love with the serum before I looked up the price tag which is always a big mistake. £81.50 for 50ml of product, as a broke student, even one with a love of beauty products, is way too much to justify. Luckily for me the lovely people over at Dermalogica offered to send it to me and I am super grateful as it has revolutionised my skincare routine.
The Biolumin-c Serum is part of their AGE Smart range, I don’t tend to go for anti-aging – I just turned 20! – but I am always happy to have a preventative product in my routine. It’s a Vitamin C product, which every brand are bringing out at the moment, but this was the first one I tried and I still love it.
It has a really light, non sticky texture which sits really nicely underneath my other skincare and subsequent makeup. I do think using this brightens my skin; it’s also meant to exfoliate and reduce pigmentation, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and prevents and corrects free radical damage.
The serum is made even better by the fact that is has no scent added, nor does alcohol feature on its ingredients list. Both of these can irritate sensitive skin, like mine, and I love seeing them out of the ingredients lists.
They recommend using morning and night for the best results. When I first got it I used to do just that because it’s so good. If I wasn’t running out I would definitely still be doing that, but alas I cannot afford to repurchase so I am making every drop count and keeping it for days my skin really needs a pick me up.
I also want to note the packaging, it feels luxurious but not over the top. I wouldn’t say it’s going to be a centerpiece for your dressing table, that’s not what the brand is about, they concern themselves with visible results.
While I have used serums for some time, up until I saw the results this one gave I wasn’t sold on them. My use would be as and when I remembered, but now I’m a convert. This serum, and Caroline Hirons videos, have taught me the wonders of skincare.
Would I recommend the serum: hell yes, but only if you have the funds to do so. It’s not a need unless you can afford it. I love it but I can’t see it returning to my collection once its done any time soon.
You can buy the Dermalogica Biolumin-C serum from the Dermalogica website from £81.50.
