Some More Empties.

It’s empties time again; I decided this year I would focus on using up what I have and try to minimise my beauty spending. I’ve been a hoarder of products for years, always needing to have a backup (or seven) for when I eventually run out of things – this would explain why I currently have three unopened foundations sitting in my ‘new product’ drawer. I was pretty ruthless at the start of the year when it came to clearing out my stash too. Yes, I admit I have too many lipsticks, but the ones that survived my declutter are all high end brands so I’d rather not waste them, I’m just not going to buy more. Makeup and skincare makes me happy, so there is no way I could reduce my routine down to just one full face’s worth of products, but even I can agree having three unopened foundations is a little excessive. Anyway, as I’m focusing on using things up this year, here are January and February product empties with mini reviews!

product empties and mini reviews

Hair // Only one product in the hair category this time and that’s a Tresemme conditioner from the Smooth and Silky range. Tresemme is my go to for hair, so there’s usually a conditioner or hair mask in my bathroom. They smell great and it makes my hair silky soft. I have started only conditioning from the mid length to the ends as apparently that’s what you’re meant to do, which means I might not go through conditioner quite as often in the future. I’ve already repurchased another of these.

Body // Another category with only one product in, this time the Deep Moisture lotion from Neutrogena. My skin gets super dry over winter and when I was home from uni over Christmas, without a body lotion, I Amazon primed myself a bottle of this and liked it enough to get a second once I used it up. It’s lightweight and doesn’t take forever to dry – which is a pet peeve of mine – I try to use it everyday at the moment and the second bottle is almost out too.

Makeup // I bought two All Nighter sprays for the price of one in the 2020 January sales and finished one earlier in the year. I had thought I would use it up sooner, but the global pandemic complete with multiple lockdowns disagreed. It’s only my second bottle I’ve ever used, but I enjoy it as a finishing spray and am happy to have another to crack open once I’ve used up my Morphe setting mist. The Smashbox Superfan mascara was also a nice surprise, once it dried out a bit. The wand wasn’t what I would usually go for but it actually defined my lashes really nicely and if I didn’t have four mascaras ready to be used I would consider repurchasing. The final makeup item is the Glamglow Glowstarter illuminating moisturiser (I used it mostly as a primer, hence why it’s here). I’ve used up a mini of this before and it gets extra points because it smells like red starbursts which is always a welcome addition. If you were to use it alone, you probably would look a little too shiny for day to day life, but underneath foundation it’s beautiful. In the Christmas sales I found a pot of this alongside the Glamglow illuminating eye cream so I’m excited to use those together, and would definitely recommend you try this, if you enjoy a glow.

Skincare // The largest category this time is skincare. I managed to use up three of the Burts Bees lip balms, my all time favourite bar the Nuxe Reve de Miel, and I already have three more on the go to keep my lips from completely drying out. I also used up the Sukin Purely Ageless Hydration Elixir which I received in a LiB box. The website said this was a serum, but it felt a lot more like an oil to me so that’s how I chose to use it, as the final step in my routine. It smelt beautiful and hydrated my skin overnight, so the next morning I wouldn’t have to battle dry skin and fine lines. I probably wouldn’t repurchase, but that’s largely because there are so many hydrating serums and oils on my list to try! I also made my way through The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toner, much better for your bank balance than the Pixi one, but I can’t say better. There’s just something amazing about the Pixi one that I’m not sure anyone has been able to dupe completely; it definitely did similar things for a better price though. I would, and have, tried to repurchase, but stock has been limited so I am currently using a Superdrug own one. Finally, I finished Dermalogica’s Barrier Defence Booster. This was a godsend when I was skiing in 2019 and saved my from the harshness of the cold and I decided that even though it’s gold dust, I should use it up. I added it into my routine once I’d finished the Sukin elixir as my final step and it was very luxurious. While I would love to repurchase this, it’s £67 so I absolutely couldn’t justify that for myself, but if you have the money and want to treat yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

That’s all for my product empties and mini reviews for today, I already have another box of empties piling up for a couple of months time. I’m hoping I’m near the end of quite a few and then they all flurry at once, but we will see. What have you been loving lately and what have you used up so far this year?
