Winter is coming and that means darker nights, shorter days and a whole lot of pick me ups are needed – skincare and otherwise. While I already have my skincare routine perfected, I like to add a few more steps that really make me feel like I’m making an effort and remind me that wintery evenings aren’t all bad, when you can spend your time doing a feel good winter routine, with a hot chocolate in hand and a Twilight marathon on in the background.
Now while the temperature does drop in winter, I can’t help but love to feel a little bit boujie when I go to upgrade my skincare routine of an evening, and nothing is more boujie than a satin dressing gown. I’m currently in love with the one from IDentity Lingerie’s sexy nightwear range, I have it in a size S and it makes me feel like I’m staying at a fancy spa hotel somewhere, far away from gloomy Southampton. Something else that always gives me a feel good vibe, is a cute lingerie set, and as part of the itty bitty titty committee a bralette set is my go to, a current fave is again from IDentity Lingerie: the lace bralette bras. Not only are the bralettes gorgeous as underwear, as someone who loves a bralette as a top these are perfect, and as always, black goes with everything (I can almost guarantee you’ll see it on my Instagram soon!)
As for the skincare related self care, first I like to take the Pixi Detoxifeye eyepatches, because my face loves to be a little puffier than necessary. These are a godsend throughout the year for me as hayfever and I are very well acquainted and my eyes get put through the ringer from June to September. I do admit, they seem a little pricey from the offset, a tub will put you back £22, however, you do get 30 pairs, making each use around 73p, which is a lot better than the individual packets, and better for the environment when you think about packaging. I then love a hydrating mask for the rest of my skin as winter does no favours for my dry patches. Currently I’m working my way through the BeautyPie Japanfusion Bio-Ceramide Moisture Mask, it has a really gentle scent and moisturises the perfect amount. I’m not sure if jade rollers do everything that TikTok claims they do, but there’s nothing wrong with trying, so I’ll use the slip created by the mask to roll my face for a few minutes before washing off the mask and removing the eye patches.
I then move onto the rest of my skincare, using a tool Dermalogica sent me for my birthday, it’s a vibrating facial brush and when your skin is feeling extra dull, this is the best pick me up. As I mentioned earlier, I have dry skin, and so that often means I’m prone to flaky skin – even when religiously using a glycolic acid, so an added gentle stage of exfoliation is welcome every once in a while. I use the facial brush with my cleanser, usually the Cerave Salicylic cleanser as my skin is spotty due to stress at the moment. I then continue the rest of my routine, finishing up with the Inkey List’s Rosehip Oil, patting it into my skin, and the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip mask, the best thing for dry lips in winter.
If I’m honest, none of these things are particularly fancy, except the dressing gown obvs, however, it’s not always about that. I care more about how these things make me feel, and they make me feel good. I also like how versatile it all is, as I can do my feel good winter routine whenever I feel like it, because nothing is too extra, just taking the time to take care of myself, as we all should!
